Francisco Javier Morales Aguilera, PhD

Francisco Javier Morales Aguilera has a degree in History from the University of Valparaíso, a Master’s in Chilean History from the University of Santiago (USACh) and a PhD in Contemporary History from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). His main line of research studies contemporary political violence in the Southern Cone and the relations between this area and the Iberian Peninsula. His doctoral thesis addressed the problem of political violence in Chile during the years 1970-1973, as well as the perceptions and diagnoses made by Spain and Portugal in relation to this phenomenon. He has published various articles in specialized magazines in Chile, Spain and Argentina.

In his work as a researcher, he has been a member of various projects, the last of them being the one financed by the Community of Madrid (I+D Project for young researchers at the UAM 2020-2021) entitled New actors in contemporary international relations during the processes decolonization of Africa, Asia and Latin America (1810-1990). Political networks, alliances and South-South cooperation. He has also been a member during the years 2019-2020 of the Group of Interdisciplinary Studies on Latin America (GEISAL) of the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has been a professor at different universities in Chile, where he has taught subjects such as Social History of Chile; Participation, Citizenship and Local Development and Political Institutions.
