GIRES, the Global Institute for Research, Education and Scholarship is proud to announce its collaboration with the EUROPEAN COMMISSION and the ERASMUS+ program.
GIRES, in this multinational project represents the Netherlands and joins forces with the Yildi Technical University (Türkiye) (coordinator), the Institute for Roma and Minorities Inclusion (Germany), the Nordic Horizon AB (Sweden), Istanbul 29 Mayis University (Tyrkiye) and King Danylo University (Ukraine).
DICOMI – Digital Comics of Migration, aims to enhance the educational environment for children displaced by wars in Syria and Ukraine, addressing the challenges of language barriers, social acceptance, and adaptation. It focuses on creating digital comics based on the real-life experiences of immigrant families, utilizing these engaging tools to teach digital literacy, democratic values, and human dignity. The project will engage in oral record of testimonies that will be transformed into art, through comics, and into educational material with the collaboration of all experts participating in the project. This approach not only aims to boost academic success but also addresses the emotional and social needs of the students through innovative, sensory learning methods.
The project’s objectives are strategically designed to maximize its reach and effectiveness. Key goals include the development of several learning modules and teacher guides, alongside hosting a Trainers Training Program and a pilot implementation to test and refine educational strategies. The initiative will provide comprehensive teacher training on the effective use of digital tools and comics, aimed at promoting social cohesion within classrooms and supporting the professional development of educators. Teachers will receive resources that help integrate values of respect and democracy into their lessons, addressing the unique needs of migrant students.
Additionally, the project aims to launch an online learning platform that will serve as a central hub for European educators to access these educational resources, fostering international cooperation among educational institutions. This platform is expected to attract a broad audience of users and visitors, enhancing the dissemination of content and interaction. Stakeholder engagement is another vital objective, with plans to organize a series of small-scale meetings and final workshops in various countries to foster interaction and feedback. The project further intends to ensure robust participation across planning, progress, and evaluation meetings, as well as engaging a significant number of participants in multiplier events and workshops. Key project outcomes also include contributing to the development of new educational policies through comprehensive policy recommendations.
Ultimately, the project seeks to create a more inclusive and supportive educational setting for children at risk of social exclusion due to displacement, enriching their learning experience and aiding their integration into new communities. These efforts are crucial for achieving widespread impact and ensuring the success of the project across its various phases.
The project’s duration is 30 months (January 2024-May 2026).
