Transhumanism and Human Enhancement: Ethical, Social, and Technological Perspectives
International Conference
16-17 May 2024
(Zoom sessions: 2 days/Virtual platform: 5 days)
Thematic Approach
GIRES, the Global Institute for Research Education & Scholarship dedicated to interdisciplinarity aims to explore engage in interdisciplinary discussions on transhumanism, human enhancement technologies, and their ethical and social implications.
We wish to explore various fields in order to offer multiple interdisciplinary approaches to this fascinating theme. The Ethical and Philosophical Dimensions is one of the approaches through the discussions on the ethical and philosophical implications of transhumanism and human enhancement technologies, including questions of human nature, dignity, autonomy, and responsibility. The Technological Advances and Possibilities will part of the fields focusing on the latest advancements in human enhancement technologies, such as genetic engineering, cognitive enhancements, body modifications, and life extension, and discuss their potential benefits and risks. In addition, we hope to analyze the Social and Cultural Impact by examining the social, cultural, and economic implications of human enhancement technologies, including their impact on identity, inequality, social norms, and the concept of disability along with the necessary Legal and Regulatory Frameworks through the navigation across the ethical challenges posed by transhumanism and human enhancement, including issues of informed consent, access, safety, and equitable distribution. We wish to discuss the Public Perception and Acceptance by investigating the public attitudes, beliefs, and concerns surrounding transhumanism and human enhancement, and explore strategies to foster informed public discourse and engagement. The Global Perspectives and the role of Inclusivity are of great interest and we hope to include diverse perspectives from different cultures, regions, and communities, ensuring a global conversation on transhumanism and human enhancement that is inclusive and sensitive to local contexts.
We envision an inclusive and interactive event that fosters dialogue, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities among participants. We encourage contributions from researchers, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and ethicists explore and engage in interdisciplinary discussions on transhumanism, human enhancement technologies, and their ethical and social implications.
