Thematic Approach

GIRES, the Global Institute for Research Education & Scholarship dedicated to interdisciplinarity organizes the conference dedicated to the exploration of  the critical intersection of the social contract theory and climate justice on addressing the urgent need for collective action to tackle climate change and its socio-economic consequences.

The conference wishes to explore this vast, timely and multifaceted topic in order to understand the social contract in the context of climate change and explore the role of the social contract as a theoretical framework for understanding the responsibilities, obligations, and rights of individuals, institutions, and governments in addressing climate change and ensuring climate justice. Examining the impact of climate change on marginalized communities we hope to investigate the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable and marginalized communities, including indigenous peoples, low-income populations, and regions with limited resources, and discussing strategies for ensuring equity and justice in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts. Through this exploration we hope to redefine the social contract for climate justice and engage in critical reflections on how the social contract needs to evolve and adapt in light of the climate crisis, including discussions on intergenerational justice, global cooperation, ecological citizenship, and the reimagining of economic systems to address environmental sustainability. Mobilizing collective action for a sustainable future while pathways for collective action, policy reforms, grassroots movements, and international collaborations to promote climate justice and sustainable development, while considering the roles of civil society organizations, governments, businesses, and individuals would be one more goal of our conference.

This conference seeks to bring together scholars, policymakers, activists, and practitioners to critically examine the relationship between societal norms, governance structures, and climate justice, and to develop strategies for building a sustainable future.
